Serving Central New Jersey
FB Roofing & Siding installs, replaces and repairs siding for homeowners throughout West Long Branch, the 2.89-square-mile borough directly behind Long Branch in eastern Monmouth County, bordered by Eatontown, Oceanport, Long Branch and Ocean Township. It has almost no water of its own, but the Atlantic is only a short distance to the east.
The borough separated from Eatontown in 1908, a split driven in part by the tax value of several large estates, and it is still a town of detached houses: about 72 percent of its homes are single detached, and the median one was built around 1966. We install vinyl, insulated vinyl and James Hardie fiber cement, we hold James Hardie preferred contractor status, and the first step is always a free written estimate.
One trusted local contractor for everything that protects your home — roof, siding, gutters, windows and doors.
Premium replacement windows and entry doors that improve efficiency, comfort and the look of your home.
In West Long Branch we handle full siding replacement, new installation, repair of individual panels and trim, and insulated siding upgrades, along with design work such as accent gables, board and batten and trim packages. A larger house multiplies the parts of a siding job that are not flat wall — corners, window and door casings, gable ends, and the lines where siding meets soffit and fascia — so we measure each elevation and show the trim as its own item instead of burying it in a square-foot figure. Expect several days to about a week on most homes depending on size, the number of elevations, trim detailing and weather; we confirm the schedule before starting.
A median build date of 1966 says most of what you need to know about siding in West Long Branch. A house that age is coming up on sixty years. Some still carry the aluminum or early vinyl they were built with; many more were re-sided once, a few decades ago, with material that is now old itself. Either way, the ordinary job in this borough is no longer the first replacement. It is the second, and it is being done on walls that have already been covered over at least once.
That history is why we do not price a house here from the street. Each earlier layer was a chance to cover something rather than fix it, and the only way to know is to look. Before a number is quoted we check the sheathing behind the panels, and we pay particular attention below windows and where a lower roof meets a wall, which is where older flashing most often let water in.
Location matters as well. West Long Branch sits just inland of the oceanfront — out of the direct spray, but close enough for ocean air and nor’easter wind to arrive with force. The walls that face east take that weather first, and on those elevations the metal goes before the panels do: nails, flashing and trim fasteners. That is a reason to think about a house here one elevation at a time. James Hardie fiber cement, which is built for coastal exposure and wind-driven rain, makes the most sense on the weather side; a good vinyl profile is often all the sheltered walls need.
Houses from the 1960s were also built with far less attention to wall insulation than anyone would accept now. When the old siding is off, insulated vinyl adds a continuous layer behind the panel that reduces thermal bridging and cuts heating and cooling load. On a large detached house with a lot of exterior wall, that is the one moment in several decades when the upgrade is easy to make.
West Long Branch is home to Monmouth University, and about three in ten homes in the borough are rented. If you own one of them, the priorities are usually durability and low upkeep, and vinyl is the most cost-effective way to get both. For owner-occupied houses the picture is different: the homeowner vacancy rate in the 2020 census was 0.3 percent, which describes a borough where people buy and stay, and where an exterior is chosen to be lived with.

Not automatically. If it is intact and you are happy with it, there is no emergency. Aluminum dents, and its finish chalks and fades, and damaged sections are hard to repair invisibly. Most owners replace it when they want a different look, better insulation, or a proper inspection of the sheathing underneath.
It is worth pricing. Insulated vinyl reduces thermal bridging and cuts heating and cooling load, and an older house with large wall areas is where that tends to show. We quote it next to standard vinyl so you can compare.
Usually the walls facing east, toward the ocean, because they take the wind and the salt air. Shaded north walls age differently: they stay damp and grow surface staining long before the panels fail.
Yes. We install replacement windows and entry doors as well, and doing the openings with the siding means the flashing and trim around them are detailed once.
