On a large two-story colonial the wall area is substantial, and that matters twice over: it is more surface for any fading or color mismatch to show across, and it is more wall across which insulated siding can reduce thermal bridging and cut heating and cooling load. We will tell you honestly whether a partial repair will blend on your elevation or whether you are better served doing the whole face. Most homes are completed in several days to about a week depending on size, the number of elevations, trim detailing and weather.
The defining feature of a Marlboro re-side is scale. A two-story colonial with a side-entry garage presents a great deal of uninterrupted wall, and everything about the job is amplified by that area. Fading that would pass unnoticed on a small ranch is far more obvious across a large elevation, and a color that looked right on a sample board can read very differently spread across a whole wall in full afternoon sun. We suggest looking at any candidate color on a large sample, against your own house, at the time of day you actually see it, before anyone orders material.
Marlboro sits on rolling ground, and how exposed a house is varies from one property to the next depending on how open the site around it is. On a more exposed elevation the fastener line and the laps do the real work, and installing to manufacturer specification is what keeps the material warranty valid.
Many of these houses were built with a masonry or stone treatment across part of the front elevation and siding everywhere else. That transition is the detail most worth getting right. The profile and color on the sides has to sit correctly against the stone rather than compete with it, and the joint has to shed water away from the wall rather than let it track behind. Where a homeowner wants a visible change, altering the gable material to board and batten or a shake pattern usually does more for the front elevation than changing the field color does.
