The Township is largely postwar and later, filled out by subdivisions built over the decades that followed.

On an older Borough house the trim, corner boards and window casings are usually as much of the job as the field panels, and getting those profiles right is what decides whether the finished elevation looks correct. On a Township subdivision home the work is more straightforward, and the real decision is whether to refresh what is on the wall or upgrade the wall itself while it is open. Most homes are completed in several days to about a week depending on size, the number of elevations, trim detailing and weather.
Many of Freehold Borough’s older houses were built for wood. Clapboard, shingle courses, deep window and door casings, brackets and porch detail — on a house like that the character lives in the trim and the shadow lines it throws, not in the flat of the wall. Strip that detail off, replace it with a plain panel and a thin corner post, and the house reads wrong even to people who could not tell you why. Fiber cement is worth considering on a house like that, because it can be run in profiles and exposures closer to the original wood than a plain panel allows — and on this kind of elevation the trim package matters as much as the field material.
If your home is in or near the historic district, check with the Borough on what approvals apply before you commit to a material or a profile. We will build to whatever specification you are given — but confirming those requirements is the homeowner’s step, and we would rather say so plainly than let you assume it is handled.
Freehold Township is a different conversation. The subdivisions there carry the vinyl of their era across large, simple elevations, and a good deal of it is now old enough to show it — faded, brittle along the fastener line, or bowing where it was hung too tight to move. There the useful question is not how to match historic detail. It is whether to take the opportunity to add insulated siding while the wall is open. It adds continuous exterior insulation behind the panel, reducing thermal bridging and cutting heating and cooling load, and the wall is not usually open again for a long time.
